This Week in San José State Athletics returns this week to catch you up on last week's action and see what's ahead for the Spartans!

Football (2-1, 0-0)
This Week: The Spartans play their first of two consecutive Friday night games this week at the United States Air Force Academy. The Falcons enter the game with a 2-1 overall record and 0-1 MW mark after falling at Boise State, 30-19 last Friday night.

Last Week: The Spartans went to SEC country and came out with a 31-24 win at Arkansas last Saturday night. The team executed a late fourth-quarter game-winning touchdown drive as DeJon Packer ran 19 yards for the score with 1:13 left in the game. Bobby Brown II grabbed the Spartans fifth interception of the night to seal the win.

Spartan Fact #1: San José State's 31 points versus Arkansas are the most points SJSU scored in a game against an SEC opponent. The previous high was 21 points against Florida, LSU and Auburn.

Spartan Fact #2: Tre Walker caught 12 passes for 161 yards against Arkansas, tying for the most receptions in a game last week nationally.

Volleyball (5-6)
This Week: The Spartans open Mountain West play with two matches - at San Diego State Thursday and home against Fresno State Saturday.

Last Week: The team went 1-1 at the Big Apple Tournament, defeating LIU 3-0 before falling 3-2 at Columbia.

Spartan Fact: Sophomore Haylee Nelson led the Spartans in hitting in the five-set loss at Columbia Friday night. Nelson led the Spartan hitting attack with 21 kills and hit .317 for the match (21-8-41). She also had eight digs and three service aces for SJSU.

Women's Soccer (2-4-2)
This Week: The Spartans begin Mountain West play this week with two road matches at Colorado College on Friday and at Air Force on Sunday.

Last Week: The Spartans fell to Portland, 2-1, in overtime last Friday night. SJSU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead before the Pilots tied the match in the 86th minute. Portland scored three minutes into overtime for the win.

Spartan Fact: Senior forward Jamilecxth Becerra was responsible for two shots on goal and her first attempt proved true as she scored an unassisted, go-ahead goal in the ninth minute. It was the Spartans' fastest goal of the season and for Becerra, it was goal number two on the year.

Men's & Women's Cross County
This Week: The Spartans race this Saturday in Sacramento at the Capital Cross Challenge to take place at the Haggin Oaks Golf Course.

Men's Soccer (0-6-0)
This Week: The Spartans finish the non-conference portion of the schedule Tuesday night with a match at Stanford. The team then opens Western Athletic Conference play on Saturday with a match against CSU Bakersfield.

Last Week: San José State lost to UC Davis, 3-1, last Saturday night. The Spartans had a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute before the Aggies scored three times in 12 minutes.

Spartan Fact: Senior Suliman Khorami tallied his second goal of the season. His goal came in the match's 50th minute, staking his team to a lead with a laser from 20 yards out. The senior striker gathered a pass from junior Carlos Gomez-Zavala before finding just enough space to get off a right-footed strike that beat the goalkeeper.

Men's Water Polo (2-6)
This Week: The Spartan men's water polo team heads to Los Angeles this weekend for the Mountain Pacific Invitational. The team plays UC Santa Barbara on Friday afternoon, and games times for the rest of the weekend will be determined by win/loss.

Last Week: The Spartans went 2-3 at the Aggie Invitational, getting wins over Whittier and Ottawa (Ariz.) on Sunday. SJSU lost two close matches on Saturday to Cal Baptist, 9-8, and California, 13-11 in OT.

This Week: The Spartans begin the 2019-20 season with the San Diego State Invite this weekend.

Men's Golf
This Week: The Spartans are getting ready to head to Fresno for the Nick Watney Invitational, next Monday and Tuesday at the Fort Washington Country Club.

Last Week: San José State finished third out of 16 teams at the Golfweek Challenge in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Caleb Shetler finished 6th at four-under 212.

Spartan Fact: The Spartans were the only team to post team scores under 290 in each of the last two rounds of the 54-hole tournament. After starting the tournament in an 11th place tie, San Jose State moved up six places to a fifth place tie after 36 holes and two more spots in the final round with team scores of two-under 286 and one-over par 289.
