Sean Yu Vaults Up Leaderboard At Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship

Shanghai, China----- San Jose State University senior Sean Yu had one of his hot flashes in the third-round of the Asia-Pacific Amateur men's golf championship.

Representing the Spartans and Chinese Taiwan, Yu ripped off six consecutive birdies and seven in the third-round for a four-under par 68 on the par 72, 7,041-yard Sheshan International Golf Course.

His third round was a bounce back from a disappointing second-round 74 when he played his nine holes four-over par.

Only eight players of the 63 that made the 36-hole cut in the championship that began with players from 42 Asian and Pacific Islander countries, islands and provinces had a score in the 60's. That was the fewest number of golfers in a round to break 70 in the championship in the first three rounds.

For 54 holes, Yu is tied for 16th place at two-under par 214. He is six shots behind four players tied for first place at 208.  Yu began the day tied for 33rd place.

Remaining players in the field have World Amateur Golf rankings as high as #2. Yu had a 403 rating, second best among amateurs from his country at the start of the championship. More than 2400 golfers have a World Amateur Golf ranking.

The 72 hole championship concludes with 18 holes on September 29. Live scoring is available at www.aacgolf.com.
