San Diego, Calif.----- Freshmen Lara Marco Mas and Rosaina Youseva each won in singles and doubles on their first day as major college tennis players for San Jose State University at the season-opening San Diego State Fall Invite.
Both were straight-set winners in singles. Marco Mas topped Anya Lamoreaux of Utah, 6-3, 6-3. Youseva bettered Sofia San Jose Moreno of McNeese State, 6-1, 6-0.
In all, five of the seven Spartans were winners in singles. Alba Pedrero Galindo, Laura Malsert and Klara Milojkovic joined the two freshmen in the winner's side of their respective brackets.
The San Jose State doubles teams of Savannah Sendar and Youseva and Pedrero Galindo and Marco Mas were winners in matches played prior to singles.
The three-day tournament continues on September 28 and concludes September 29.
