Shanghai, China ----- San Jose State University men's golf team senior Sean Yu is heading back to the United States and his Spartan teammates with a top-25 finish at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship.
Representing Chinese Taipei in the 42-country, province and island event covering members of the Asia-Pacific Golf Federation, Yu finished with a 72-hole total of 290 and a three-way tie for 25th place on the par 72, 7,041-yard Sheshan International golf course.
His final round score of 76, his highest of the four rounds, consisted of an eagle-3 on the par 5, 14th hole, three birdies, two bogeys, two double-bogeys and a triple-bogey-7 on the par 4 11th hole. Through 10 holes, Yu was three-under par for the tournament and in a tie for 15th place.
Takumi Kanaya of Japan and Yuxin Lin of the People's Republic of China tied for medalist honors at 10-under par 278. The winner of the playoff earns a trip to Augusta, Ga., for The Masters and to The Open Championship in 2020.
Six of the top-100 players in the World Amateur Golf rankings competed in the championship. The field was cut from 120 players to 66 for the final two 18-hole rounds.
