San José State University women's soccer goalkeeper Ariana Romero and football linebacker Ethan Aguayo are the Student-Athletes of the Month for August, presented by Zume Pizza.
Romero started the first three matches of the season after transferring in from Seattle University. She tallied 13 saves while pitching three-straight shutouts to open her Spartan career. Romero made a season-high six saves on the road at UC Santa Barbara and became the first Spartan goalkeeper to pitch a shutout in non-conference play on the road since 2017.
Aguayo matched career highs of 20 tackles and 2.0 tackles for loss in the 35-18 win over Northern Colorado. He added a quarterback sack in the victory. His 20 tackles marked the 11th time in his San José State career he has had 10 or ore tackles in a game and the second contest with 20 or more stops. He led all players in the game with his 20 tackles and helped a San José State defense limit Northern Colorado to 287 yards of total offense.
