LARAMIE, Wyo. – San Jose State women's soccer notched their sixth shutout of the season Friday afternoon as they played the Wyoming Cowgirls to a 0-0 double-overtime draw at the Madrid Soccer Complex.
"Proud of our team's performance in a very difficult place to play," head coach Lauren Hanson said. "We generated some quality opportunities, just need to capitalize on our chances and work on getting more shots on frame. It will come. Lots of growth today."
Despite not putting any shots in the back of the net, the Spartans put themselves in great position as they attempted a season-high 18 shots. After a sluggish start in which they put up just a pair of shots in the opening 45 minutes, SJSU came out of the half with some pop and tallied nine shots in the second half and seven more across the two overtime periods.
Karlee Pottorff led the squad with five shots while Sabrina Weinman put up three. Weinman had the best attempt of the match in the 64th minute as her shot bounced off the crossbar.
Once again the SJSU Defense played well, especially in the second half and overtime periods. After the Cowgirls put up seven shots in the first half, the Spartans locked down in the second half to limit them to two shots in the period and three combined in overtime.
Goalkeeper Ariana Romero made five saves as she posted her sixth clean sheet of her sophomore season.
With the tie, the Spartans move to 2-2-1 in league play and 4-6-3 overall while Wyoming is now 5-4-4 overall and 2-2-1 in the MW. SJSU returns to the pitch with the back half of their road swing on Sunday against Colorado State.
