Track & Field Adds Sean Gwi As Assistant Coach

San José, Calif. – San José State Director of Track & Field Kendra Reimer-Gonzales has announced the hiring of Sean Gwi as the program's newest assistant coach.

Gwi takes over in his new role after spending the last two seasons as the associate coach for the Hawaii women's track & field program.

"It is great to be back home in the Bay Area," says Gwi. "I am excited to be part of such an experienced and accomplished coaching staff and I'm looking forward to working with the talented student-athletes here at SJSU."

Gwi oversaw sprints, hurdles and jumps for the Warriors, helping his athletes earn some of the Big West's top marks on a consistent basis.

"We are thrilled to have Sean Gwi on board," Reimer-Gonzales says. "His work ethic and commitment is unmatched and he is a great technician. We're bringing the sprints back to San José State and with his expertise we will see the return of Speed City."

Gwi earned a Bachelor's degree in kinesiology at San Francisco State and a Master's in coaching and athletic administration at Concordia-Irvine. Prior to working at Hawaii, Gwi was the head women's track & field coach at Laney College in addition to serving coaching roles at City College of San Francisco and Chabot College.

The Eagles soared to new heights with Gwi at the helm at Laney, winning a pair of individual titles in 2014 while placing fifth at the California State Championships. While serving as an assistant on the staff, the Eagles placed first at the state title meet in 2012 and second a year later.

Originally from San Francisco, Gwi has participated in the USA Track & Field (USATF) Emerging Elite Coaching Camp and has Level II USATF certifications in both sprints and jumps.
