Spartans Swept by UNLV

San Jose, Calif.—Haylee Nelson led the Spartan volleyball team with eight kills, but San José State could not maintain a lead against UNLV Thursday night in a 3-0 loss of the Mountain West match.
 
The Spartans hit just .049 for the match, while the Rebels hit .314 with only nine hitting errors in 102 attempts and 41 kills.  Makayla Lewis and Fernanda Vido each had six kills, followed by Thaliana Grajeda with four and Latahevai Lousi at three.
 
Nelson and Ryann Thomison each recorded two block assists in the match. Lousi and Grajeda each had one
 
Mamie Garard recorded 16 assists, while Kaitlynn Zdroik added seven assists and six digs. Sarah Smevog led the team with 21 digs and added three assists. Caitlin Bettenay came off the bench and recorded the team's only two service aces in the match.
 
The Spartans only lead of the match came at 1-0 to start the second set on a Grajeda kill. The two teams saw 11 tie scores throughout the three sets.
 
San José State continues at home this Saturday with a noon match against New Mexico inside Spartan Gym, located on the corner of Fourth and San Carlos Streets. Tickets are available at the door. Fans can come to volleyball then tailgate and go to Spartanpalooza Homecoming game.
