San José State University and the University of Connecticut (UConn) reached an agreement to play a home-and-home football series beginning in 2020 and concluding in 2028. Marie Tuite, the Spartans' director of athletics, made the announcement for San Jose State.
The Spartans will host UConn, Saturday, November 14, 2020, at CEFCU Stadium, Home of the Spartans. San José State will make its first football trip to Storrs, Conn., for a September 16, 2028 return encounter. Both games are non-conference contests.
The addition of the UConn series coincides with San Jose State and Army West Point amending its original four-year, home-and-home series.
In 2009, the Spartans and the Black Knights agreed to play games hosted by San José State in 2018 and 2020 and by Army in 2019 and 2021. These two teams will conclude and complete their amended agreement with the October 26, 2019 game at Michie Stadium.
The schedule changes give San José State six home and six road games for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Of the 12 contests each year, eight will be against Mountain West members and four against non-conference opponents. The Spartans' non-conference games in 2020 will be home encounters with UC Davis and UConn and road trips to Central Michigan and Penn State. In 2021, San José State will host Southern Utah and New Mexico State and travel to Georgia and Western Michigan.
