San Jose State University sophomore goalkeeper Yahav Fire was named the Golden Coast Conference men's water polo "Player of the Week" for matches played the weekend of October 18-20.
He is the first Spartan to earn conference "Player of the Week" honors since the 2017 season.
Fire was on fire, particularly, in the Spartans' 8-3 conference victory over then-#12 UC Irvine. He stopped 18 out of 21 shots for an .875 season-high save percentage. The three goals allowed was the fewest by San Jose State in a conference game and helped the Spartans win their first Golden Coast Conference contest since the 2017 season.
The second-year player from Kfar Hasidim, Israel also was credited with two assists in the win over UC Irvine.
For the week, Fire made 25 saves, seven of which came in a 10-6 loss to #7-Long Beach State. Fire is the conference leader in goalkeeper saves with 165.
