Matt Mercurio - Mountain West Special Teams Player Of The Week

Colorado Springs, Colo.----- For the second time this season, San Jose State University placekicker Matt Mercurio is the Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week.

The redshirt freshman from Salinas, Calif. (Palma HS) tied a school record for the second time this season kicking four field goals in four attempts in the Spartans' 34-29 non-conference road win over Army West Point.

Mercurio converted kicks of 30, 23, 38 and 28 yards in the win to extend his streak of consecutive made field goals to 10. The 30-yard kick in the second quarter gave the Spartans a 10-7 advantage, a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the game thanks in part to the accuracy of the Spartan kicker.

He also added two extra-point conversions accounting for 14 of San Jose State's 34 points in the team's second non-conference road win of the season.

Earlier in 2019, Mercurio was named the conference's Special Teams Player of the Week when he kicked four field goals in the 32-21 victory over New Mexico.

For the season, Mercurio has made 13-of-16 field goal tries and leads San Jose State in scoring with 63 points.
