San José, Calif. - The Mountain West released its 2019-20 preseason women's basketball poll on Thursday and San José State was one of just three teams to receive a first-place vote. Defending regular season and tournament champion Boise State was picked to win the league.
In a poll of the conference's head coaches and media members, the Broncos received 25 of a possible 29 first-place votes and a total of 305 points. They edged out New Mexico (three first-place votes and 280 points) and Fresno State (228 points) for the top spot.
This year's team returns four starters from the 2018-19 season and adds two high-profile transfers into the mix in the form of forward Tyra Whitehead (Wake Forest) and guard Ayzhiana Basallo (Cal Poly).
The Spartans opened the season with an exhibition victory over Fresno Pacific on Tuesday. They will tip-off the regular season next week at UC Irvine.
