Spartans & Hawai'i Unveil Dick Tomey Legacy Trophy

Honolulu, Hawaii----- When San Jose State University and the University Hawaii take the field on November 9 at Aloha Stadium for the 43rd football game between these teams, it will be the first time the two teams are playing for the Dick Tomey Legacy Trophy.

Named after the late head coach of both football programs who passed away earlier in the year at age 80, the concept was conceived over the summer by head coaches Brent Brennan of the Spartans and Nick Rolovich of the Rainbow Warriors.

After the San Jose State traveling party arrived in Honolulu, the Spartans headed over to Duke Kahanamoku statue on Waikiki for a brief trophy unveiling ceremony.

Rolovich, Brennan, and Rich Tomey, son of Coach Tomey offered brief comments about the coach who led San Jose State, Hawaii and Arizona for a combined 29 seasons to 183 victories in competition and many more off the playing field. Nanci Kincaid, widow of the legendary coach who will be honored posthumously with the 2020 American Football Coaches Association's Amos Alonzo Stagg Award "…given to the individual, group or institution whose services have been outstanding in the advancement of the best issues in football," was present for the evening's festivities.

Kickoff for the November 9 San Jose State-Hawaii football game is at 6:07 p.m. (HT)/8:07 p.m. (PT). The game will be streamed on the mainland through Facebook. Play-by-play radio coverage with the San Jose State radio pair of Justin Allegri and Kevin Richardson on KKSF (910 Real Talk Radio) begins at 7:30 p.m. (PT).
