Prioleau Signs Two for 2020

San José, Calif. - San José State men's basketball head coach Jean Prioleau has announced the signing of two high school seniors to national letters of intent.

The Spartans will add combo guard Sebastian Mendoza and center Hugo Clarkin to the roster for the 2020-21 season.

Mendoza, a 6-foot-4 guard from Riverside, Calif., was named to the Southern Section all-3AA team as a junior after averaging 29.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Mendoza was a MaxPreps Div. 3 all-state selection last season as well.

"Sebastian is an all-around guard," Prioleau said. "He's very athletic and can shoot the three both off the dribble and off the catch. He will be ready to make an immediate impact for our program."

The Spartans graduate senior guards Brae Ivey and Isaiah Nichols at the end of this season. Mendoza will join a talented guard rotation next year that includes leading scorer Richard Washington and starter Seneca Knight.

There is also some size in the signing class, with the addition of Clarkin, a 7-foot center from Las Flores, Calif. Clarkin helped JSerra Catholic HS to a playoff appearance last season.

"Hugo is a rapidly developing big man that is capable of shooting the three," Prioleau said. "He plays for a powerhouse program in Southern California and has really grown his game. His best days are ahead of him."

SJSU graduates forward Craig LeCesne off this year's team. Clarkin will add to an already imposing front court next season, with 6-foot-11 center Samuel Japhet-Mathias, 6-foot-10 forward Eduardo Lane, 6-foot-9 forward Christian Anigwe and 6-foot-8 forward Ralph Agee all back.
