COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San José State sophomore Ayzhiana Basallo was named the Mountain West Player of the Week on Monday following an elite trio of performances last week.
The honor is the first of the guard's career. In addition, it marks the program's first award since guard Myzhanique Ladd was named the conference's Player of the Week on Jan. 8, 2018.
Basallo averaged 25.3 points and 7.6 assists per game while shooting 61 percent from the field and 58 percent from three-point range. The San Francisco product recorded the first double-double of her Spartan career in Sunday's victory over Sacramento State, tallying 21 points while dishing out 11 assists.

Less than 40 hours earlier she led her team to a road victory at UC Santa Barbara, playing 36 minutes while scoring 26 points and recording six assists. She peppered the entire stat sheet throughout the week, grabbing seven rebounds and making four steals.
"Shana was the catalyst in us picking up back-to-back wins," says head coach Jamie Craighead. "Everything we do is about the team and this award means recognition for everyone. It's been a long time since we have had a player of the week and she definitely earned it."
Basallo is averaging a conference-high 22.2 points per game after two weeks of play in her first season as a Spartan. Her career-high in points came on Tuesday at Santa Clara, a 29-point effort that included a 9-for-9 showing from the charity stripe.
