Spartans Roll To Second Win In 85-60 Victory

San José, Calif. - Four Spartans finished scoring in double figures as San José State cruised to a 25-point victory on Sunday afternoon.

SJSU jumped out to an early 29-18 advantage and never looked back, cruising to an 85-60 win over Simpson (CA) to improve to .500 on the season. Sophomore Seneca Knight paved the way, leading his team with 15 points in the win.

"I think we're going to learn a lot of things from this game," said head coach Jean Prioleau after the victory. "I liked the way our guys responded and I'm proud of us for getting the win out there tonight."

The home team led 42-26 at the halftime break, closing the opening 20 minutes on a quick 10-2 binge that was capped by a ferocious dunk from Ralph Agee. Agee (10 points) was joined by Knight, Zach Chappell (14) and Craig LeCesne (13) in double figures.

If the Redhawks had any notions of a comeback, they were quickly erased early in the second half. A 14-3 binge out of the locker rooms extended San José State's lead to 27 points, an advantage that would grow as high as 28 in the second stanza.

Knight put the finishing touches on the win with a layup in the final minute, putting a bow on the Spartans' 25-point victory.

San José State ended the afternoon with a 48-34 advantage in points in the paint. It also dominated Simpson off the bench, turning in 47 bench points to their opponents' 16.

The Spartans shot the ball at a 55 percent clip from the field and were 10-of-16 from the charity stripe.

With the win, SJSU improves to 2-2 on the season and carries plenty of momentum into the remainder of its three-game homestand. They will return to action on Wednesday night, playing host to Grambling State at 7:00 p.m.
