Malibu, Calif.----- San Jose State lost, 8-4, against Long Beach State in a first-round Golden Coast Conference championship match.
Adam Bado and Marc Weber scored the four of the goals for the Spartans with two goals each.
In the first half, Long Beach State scored all four goals for a 4-0 lead. The Spartans took 11 shots, had two hit a post and 49ers goalkeeper Marwan Darwish came up with four of his nine saves. It was the first time this season San Jose State (7-19) failed to score in the first half.
Long Beach State extended its lead to 5-0 in the third quarter before Bado scored two quick goals in a 0:42 span to close the deficit to 5-2. The first was on a power play at 0:46. San Jose State finished just 1-of-11 on the power play.
Weber made it 5-3 with a score at 5:56 of the fourth quarter before went on a 3-0 run to put the match out of reach and advance to the Golden Coast Conference semifinal round. Weber closed out the scoring with 0:19 remaining.
Spartan goalkeeper Yahav Fire was credited with seven saves.
The Spartans return to action on November 23 for the second day of the Golden Coast Conference Championship taking on UC Irvine for fifth place. The match begins at 9:30 a.m.
