Colorado Springs, Colo.—San José State volleyball player Haylee Nelson has been named to the 2019 Mountain West Conference volleyball team, as selected by the conference's head volleyball coaches.
Nelson, a sophomore right side, led the Spartans in kills in MW matches with 188, 2.85 per set. She also averaged 1.41 digs and 0.64 blocks in 66 sets played during the conference schedule. Nelson recorded double-digit kills in nine MW matches including a career-best 24 in a five-set win over Nevada in early November. She was also selected as the MW Offensive Player of the Week for November 4, after hitting .450 that week as the Spartans went 1-1.
Overall, Nelson led the team with 320 kills and averaged 3.02 kills, 1.27 digs and 0.52 blocks per set.
Nelson joins the list of Spartan players who have received this honor – Luiza Andrade and Latahevai Lousi in 2018, Nandyala Gama and Breann Robinson in 2017 and Hanah Blume in 2013. Three Spartans have earned honorable mention honors – Thaliana Grajeda (2018), Nandyala Gama (2016) and Tyanna Roy (2015).
San José State finished the season with a 10-19 overall record and 5-13 in the MW.
