#7 USC Takes 17-9 Victory Over the Spartans

Los Angeles, Calif. ----- #12-San Jose State had a 5-3 second quarter lead over #7-USC before the Trojans exploded offensively for a 17-9 non-conference win.

    Finn Pardon of the Spartans was the match's top scorer with four goals. Neil Arnett, Adam Bado, Marc Weber, Niels Hofmeijer and Gage Pranajaya scored the rest of San Jose State's goals. 

    Goals by Pranajaya, Pickering and Weber gave the Spartans a 3-1 lead after the first quarter.

    Pardon's first two goals of the match kept San José State in the lead, 5-3, with 3:58 to go before halftime.

    Jacob Mercep, who played his freshman season for the Spartans, then initiated a Trojans' four-goal onslaught with his first of three goals in the match to close out the first half giving USC (11-4) a 7-5 lead.

     San Jose State (7-15) stayed within two goals of the Trojans throughout the third quarter on scores by Pardon, Hofmeijer and Bado.

     Two USC power-play goals in the first 1:46 of the fourth quarter, one of them by Mercep, extended the Trojans' lead to 12-8. Overall, USC was 8-for-12 on power-play opportunities.

     San Jose State's starting goalkeeper Yahav Fire was credited with nine saves. Griffin O'Brien played the final 2:30 of the match and was credited with one save.

    The Spartans will return to action Saturday, November 9, for their next home game against UC Santa Barbara. Fans who come to the match wearing pink will get discounted admission.
