San José, Calif. - San José State senior Sean Yu has been named the Mountain West Golfer of the Month for October, the league announced on Friday.
In two tournaments in October, Yu finished second at the Alister MacKenzie before claiming the title at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invite.
Yu set himself up for success at both tournaments with incredible opening rounds. At the Alister MacKenzie, Yu carded a program-record 61 in his first round, the second-lowest round in the NCAA this season. The Taipei, Taiwan, native posted a 198 in his second-place showing, tied for the second-best three-round score in program history.
At the Visit Stockton Pacific Invite, Yu opened up with a 64 and led wire-to-wire for his first collegiate victory. Yu led the Spartans to a team title at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invite as well, the first tournament title for SJSU since winning the 2012 WAC Championship.
Yu is shooting a team-best 69.50 after four fall tournaments. He also leads the team with 58 birdies.
Yu and the Spartans once again host one of the top collegiate golf tournaments in the nation this year with the 74th Western Intercollegiate set to air on Golf Channel on April 13-15.
