Kristen Amarikwa Named United Soccer Coaches All-Pacific Region

SAN JOSE, Calif. –San Jose State women's soccer senior defender Kristen Amarikwa will need to free up some more space in the trophy case as she picked up another postseason honor for her outstanding play in 2019. This time the United Soccer Coaches named her a 2019 NCAA Division I All-Pacific Region second team honoree.

This is the third time in her illustrious career that the Bakersfield product has earned a spot on the all-region second team. She previously achieved the feat as both a freshman and sophomore.

"This recognition just shows how special Kristen is on the field and has been for our program," head coach Lauren Hanson said. "We are proud of her and looking forward to watching her in the future, wherever he playing destination may be."

Amarikwa wrapped up her Spartan career as one of the most prolific defenders in program history. This season, as the leader of the defensive back line, she was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year and was a first team All-MW selection after starting all 20 matches and leading the defense that pitched eight shutouts, good for second-most in program history.

Amarikwa was also used as an offensive weapon in the latter half of 2019 as she made a move to striker which resulted in a team-high five goals, all in conference play, including a four-game stretch in which she scored at least one goal. Behind her play and leadership, the Spartans advanced to their fifth-straight Mountain West Tournament in 2019.
