Meet The Newcomers - Pitchers

SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose State baseball made big moves in the offseason with the addition of 22 newcomers to help fill in the gaps on the roster. Of those 22, head coach Brad Sanfilippo signed 13 pitchers to help fill the rotation that saw several arms lost in the offseason, including Major League Baseball draft picks Andrew Mitchel and Fineas Del Bonta-Smith. Here's an in depth look at the newcomers.
 
Trevor Allen (RHP), Freshman, Los Gatos High School:
Allen was dominant for Los Gatos in two seasons of varsity ball, accumulating a career era of 1.73 and a 14-1 overall record. As a senior in 2018-19, Allen was a perfect 9-0 in 11 appearances with five complete games, a pair of shutouts and a save while posting a 1.27 ERA. The right-hander struck out 41 and didn't allow a homer.
 
Joshua Caldwell (RHP), Junior, Cosumnes River College:
Caldwell made 10 starts and 12 appearances last season at Cosumnes River College, recording 4.72 strikeouts per nine innings to go with a 4.72 ERA. The righty was 3-5 on the season. He played high school ball at Cosumnes Oaks High in Elk Grove, California.
 
Dominic Eberle (RHP), Junior, Los Angeles Mission College:
Eberle made 10 starts last year as a sophomore and was 3-4 in 52.1 innings of work. He led the starters with 9.97 strikeouts per nine innings and had a team-high 58 strikeouts on the season. The right-hander is originally from Santa Clarita, California and played high school ball at West Ranch High.

Trevor Ernt (LHP), Freshman, Arnold O Beckman High School:
Ernt was a second team All-Orange County and a Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year as a senior at Arnold O Beckman High. The lefty was 9-0 on the season with a 0.67 ERA and struck out 49. He allowed just five earned runs in 52 innings of work and picked up three saves.
 
Ryan Graves (RHP), Freshman, La Canada High School:
A four-year star at La Canada High, Graves was a dominant player at the high school level. He touted a career 2.11 ERA and 147 strikeouts. As a senior last season, he posted a 1.89 ERA while going 8-3 on the bump in 14 appearances with over 70 innings of work. The righty struck out 64 batters while issuing just seven walks. Graves also excelled with the bat in his hand as he racked up 28 hits with 16 RBI and 14 runs scored while hitting .424 as a senior.
 
Jake Hernandez (LHP), Junior, College of the Sequoias:
Hernandez pitched over 130 innings in two seasons at the College of the Sequoias, posting a career ERA of 2.62. He was 9-3 on the bump in 23 career starts and struck out 114 to just 21 walks issued. Last season, Hernandez went 5-1 in 10 starts in 60.1 innings and tallied a 2.39 ERA.
 
Kevin Kyle (RHP), Junior, Delta College:
Kyle was a two-year starter at Delta College where he logged over 190 innings over his two seasons. A native of Elk Grove, California, Kyle went 20-4 in 37 career appearances, including 31 starts, and also posted a pair of saves. He averaged 10.15 strikeouts per nine innings and recorded a 3.28 career ERA. In his first season, the right-hander went 9-1 on the bump in 15 starts and allowed just three home runs while posting a 3.08 ERA over 90 2/3 innings of work. He followed that season up by notching a career-best 126 strikeouts as a sophomore, averaging 11.15 per nine innings. He was 11-3 in 16 starts and had a 3.45 ERA.
 
Spencer Long (RHP), Junior, El Camino College:
One of the top relievers in the Spartan signing class, Long made 11 saves last season in 34.1 innings of work and 16 appearances. He totaled a 2.10 ERA and averaged 10.49 strikeouts per nine innings. The native of El Segundo, California made 28 appearances in his two seasons with 12 saves and was 6-6 on the bump with an ERA of 3.00. He tallied 90 strikeouts to 27 walks.
 
Sean Prozell (RHP), Junior, College of San Mateo:
Prozell worked over 90 innings with a 2.51 ERA last season for the College of San Mateo. He was 8-1 with 13 starts and 15 appearances on the bump, allowing just seven home runs and 21 walks on the season. Used as a utility player, Prozell also did well in the batter's box, batting .283 with 28 hits, including 11 doubles and a homer, and had 17 RBI.
 
Corey Sanchez (RHP), Freshman, Murrieta Valley High School:
Sanchez played both in the field and on the bump in his four seasons. As a pitcher, he posted a career 3.00 ERA with a 5-1 record. He was also a .276 lifetime hitter with 54 hits and 32 RBI.
 
Jeremy Watland (RHP), Junior, Feather River College:
Watland played mostly in the infield but also saw six appearances on the bump last season as a sophomore at Feather River College. He pitched 12.0 innings in relief duty and also made one start, and finished the year with a 2.25 ERA. Offensively, he appeared in 38 games and held a .200 batting average.
 
Jonathan Wiltfang (RHP), Junior, Cuesta College:
Wiltfang made five appearances with four starts last season as a sophomore at Cuesta College. The right-hander struck out 11 batters over 22.1 innings of work. Wiltfang graduated from Clovis High in Clovis, California.
