San José State University women's cross country runner Jennifer Sandoval and football player DeJon Packer are the Student-Athletes of the Month for November, presented by A Tool Shed Equipment Rentals.
Sandoval is the first-ever Spartan woman to qualify for the NCAA Women's Cross Country Championship. She finished the national race in Terre Haute with a time of 21:08.2, to place 82nd out of 254 runners. Sandoval advanced to the national championship meet with her 10th-place performance at the NCAA West Regionals. She finished the race at 20:09.8, her best mark of the season and earned USTFCCCA All-West Region honors, the first-ever nod for the San Jose State women's cross country program. Sandoval earned second team All-Mountain West honors at the conference championship race after finishing 8th to start the month. Sandoval finished the year with five top-10 finishes including two individual titles.
Packer, for the month of November had 63 rushes for 311 yards and six touchdowns and 13 receptions for 161 yards and one TD. He gained more than half his season rushing total of 567 yards, caught 13 of his 27 receptions and scored seven of his team-leading 12 touchdowns in November. Packer scored at least one touchdown in each of San Jose State's four November games and scored seven TDs total - two touchdowns each in the Boise State, Hawaii and UNLV games and the game-winning TD against Fresno State for the Valley Trophy. He was the only Spartan to rush for more than 100 yards in a 2019 game with a single-game career best 20 carries for 112 yards and two TDs at Hawaii.
