Youth Movement Leads Spartans To Start Indoor Season

Albuquerque, N.M. - Strong performances from multiple freshmen and sophomores paved the way to a solid start for the San José State track and field teams at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Collegiate Invitational on Friday.

Both the men's and women's teams took to Albuquerque to start the 2020 season, competing in the two-day meet to ease into the indoor campaign.

That was good enough for a fourth place finish, completing a strong day that included a 25.29 mark in the 200 run. Bentley's 400 meter finish set a new women's indoor school record for San José State.

Freshman Juliette Noyer also impressed in her first-ever meet, placing sixth and setting a school record in the 600 meter dash at a clip of 1:36.88.

Sophomore Mikael Tyler who led the men's efforts on Friday, taking on some of the nation's top runners in the 400 meter race before emerging in fifth place. Tyler's mark of 51.05 came in just ahead of teammate Cecil Ebiwok at 51.65.
