BOISE, Idaho – San Jose State men's basketball couldn't keep up with hot-shooting Boise State as they fell by a final of 99-71 Wednesday evening inside Extra Mile Arena.
The Spartans started the game off well as they scored 27 points in the first 13 minutes, however that trend failed to continue down the stretch as they hit just one bucket in the final five minutes of the half. Boise State, on the other hand, shot well from start to finish and closed the half on a 13-2 run to take a 42-27 lead into the locker room. The Broncos hit seven 3-pointers in the half with Derrick Alston knocking down four of his five attempts.
The second half saw a better scoring effort from the Spartans, but the deficit was just too much to overcome. Boise State hit their first six shots attempts in the half and started with a 12-2 run to take a 54-31 advantage. That lead was extended to as much as 33 with just over two minutes left in the contest.
The Spartans hit 54.8 percent of the second-half shots with Richard Washington scoring 14 of his team-high 17 points in the half. Seneca Knight scored 11 in the half and finished with 16 for the game as he reached double figures for the 13th time in the last 14 games.
Boise State shot 58.6 percent from the field for the night and knocked down 57 percent from 3-point range (15-of-26). They also hit 64.5 percent in the second half. The Broncos also won the rebounding battle 36-24.
Alston led all scorers with 27 points on 9-of-12 shooting with six treys. Justinian Jessup knocked down five treys of his own and finished with 21 points while RJ Williams recorded a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds.
The Spartans return to action this Saturday against Wyoming. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. PT inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center.
