Spartan Athletics Fund FAQs

What happened to the Spartan Foundation?

The Tower Foundation of San José State University is the official clearing house for all gifts to the University. In 2014, the University determined that gifts to Athletics would be processed through the Tower Foundation just like all other gifts to SJSU, and the Spartan Foundation became a dormant entity. The need to provide philanthropic support is greater than ever before, and the Spartan Athletics Fund was created to provide even more opportunities for student-athletes.

Is my Spartan Athletics Fund donation still part of my season ticket purchase?

No. After the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act went into effect on January 1, 2018, the 80% taxdeductible benefit for donations tied to ticket purchases was eliminated. In response, Spartan Athletics created the Shield 365 program to add year-round value for Season Ticket Members.

Is there a deadline to renew my Spartan Athletics Fund gift?

Spartan Athletics Fund benefits run from July 1 through June 30. To receive the full benefits of your Spartan Athletics Fund gift, renew your gift by June 30.

Where does my gift to the Spartan Athletics Fund go?

Gifts to the Spartan Athletics Fund are used to fund the Athletics programs at San José State University. Your gifts can help with the retention of our coaching leadership, academic support resources, nutrition and strength programming, and much more!
