Los Angeles, Calif.—— #13 San Jose State lost to #3 UCLA, 18-10, in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's water polo conference opener for both teams.
Lili Urvari was the top scorer with four goals. Urvari tied her San Jose State single-match high of four goals.
UCLA took a 2-0 lead, but the Spartans tied the score 2-2 after goals by Urvari and Isabella Schmidt. The first quarter closed out with a 4-4 tie with goals by Urvari and Riley Agerbeek.
The score was tied up three more times in the second quarter on goals by Tyanna Supreme and two by Agerbeek, who finished the match with three scores. UCLA ended the first half with a 8-7 lead. The Bruins expanded their lead to 12-8 after three quarters.
Spartan goalkeeper Hannah Henry was credited with eight saves.
The Spartans will return to action tomorrow, February 1 against #5 UC Irvine and #14 Long Beach State on the UCLA campus.
