LOGAN, Utah – Freshman Omari Moore matched his season-high with 12 points but the San Jose State men's basketball team fell to Utah State, 94-56, on Tuesday night at the Smith Spectrum.
The Spartans return home for the regular season finale against UNLV. Tip will be at 2 PM on AT&T SportsNet with senior day celebrations to take place postgame.
"We'll head home and regroup, put this game behind us," said head coach Jean Prioleau. "We're going to try and finish strong with UNLV on Saturday and head into the conference tournament."
Following raucous pregame senior day celebrations for Utah State, the Aggies came out revved up after winning the opening tip. Utah State opened with a 19-0 run as the Spartans were held scoreless over the first 5:55 of the game. A Trey Smith jumper with 14:05 left in the first half snapped the run.
Ralph Agee scored six straight points for the Spartans on an and-one layup and a three-pointer to make it a 28-8 lead for the Aggies with 11:34 left in the first. After Christian Anigwe knocked down a triple with 6:38 on the clock, the Aggies went on a 16-3 run to close the first and owned a 51-14 lead at halftime. The 14 first half points were the fewest for the Spartans this season.
The Spartans tallied back-to-back buckets early in the second half when Brae Ivey drove and scored followed by a vicious fastbreak slam by Moore.
Following a Moore tip-in, the freshman swiped a pass and sprinted the floor for another dunk. Moore added a three-pointer as the rookie scored nine straight for the Spartans to make it a 59-27 lead for the Aggies with 14:27 left.
Moore knocked down another triple with 11:21 left in the game to give him 12 points, matching his season-high.
Richard Washington joined Moore with 12 points after a pair of late three-pointers in the 94-56 win by the Aggies. Sophomore Seneca Knight had a team-high 13 points.
