Sisk Shoots Season-Best in Final Round at Amer Ari

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - Sophomore Parker Sisk shot a season-best round of 67 as the San Jose State men's golf team wrapped up play at the Amer Ari Invitational at the Waikoloa Kings' Course.

Sisk started his round on the sixth hole. At 1-over, he tallied birdies on four of the final five holes of the back nine. He rattled off three more birdies, sandwiched around a bogey on No. 3, to open the front nine before finishing with a 5-under par 67, his lowest round of the season. Sisk's previous best was a 68, at both the Nick Watney Invitational and the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in the fall. Sisk's strong final round vaulted him to 33rd at 4-under overall after shooting a 73 in his opening round and a 72 in his second round.

"Parker let his full game come out today, it's been trapped a bit, and it really helped us," head coach John Kennaday said. "He's an excellent young man and it was nice to see."

Freshman Carl Corpus tied Sisk at 33rd, shooting even par in his third round and 4-under overall. Corpus carded four bogeys, two birdies and an eagle. The rookie had an eagle in each of his three rounds in Hawaii.

The Spartans entered Saturday's third and final round in eighth and ended the round in eighth as well. No. 1 ranked Pepperdine rallied for the team win, climbing three spots on the leaderboard in the final day. In eighth, the Spartans finished ahead of No. 30 ranked USC in 12th, No. 25 Stanford in 15th and No. 26 Oregon State in 18th. The Spartans shot an 852 (286-282-284) at the Amer Ari, their second tournament of the spring season.

"The guys showed a lot of grit in this tournament," Kennaday said. "They're growing into a good team, I'm really proud of them. We held our own against a lot of great teams."

Bryce Wortman also shot even par on Saturday, with three bogeys and three birdies. He tied for 56th at even par overall. Sean Yu was 1-over par in his third round, but used a 67 in his second round to tied for 39th at 3-under for the tournament.

Yu will now head straight to Los Angeles to compete in the Genesis Open Collegiate Showcase at Riviera Country Club. The event will feature 13 top collegiate players competing for an exemption into the 2020 Genesis Invitational individually and a $50,000 donation to their golf team in pro/am groups.
