Men's Golf Wraps Up Bandon Dunes Championship

BANDON, Ore. - The San Jose State men's golf team finished in the top half of the field for a second straight tournament, tying No. 21 ranked UCLA for seventh at the Bandon Dunes Championship.

The Spartans tallied a 14-over 866 (296-284-286) on the Pacific Dunes Course, taking seventh one tournament after placing eighth at the Amer Ari Invitational.

"The guys really showed up in the second and third round," said head coach John Kennaday. "The first round is on me, I didn't do a good enough job of getting them ready. If we keep playing like we did the last two rounds, we're going to make some noise going forward."

Senior Sean Yu posted his third top-10 finish of the year, tying for seventh with a 1-under 212 (75-65-72). Yu used his eighth sub-70 round of the season, a 65 in Monday's second round, to jump up the leaderboard. He carded a 1-over 72, with three birdies on the back nine, in Tuesday's third and final round.

"Sean played brilliantly," Kennaday added. "He had a couple really, really good shots."

Freshman Caleb Shetler posted a 1-under 70 on Tuesday to climb up the leaderboard for his first top-25 finish of the spring season. He tied for 21st with a 2-over 215 (73-72-70).

"Caleb's round is a testament to his talent," Kennaday said. "He's growing on the golf course. The more we learn, the better we can perform and he's doing that."

Junior Bryce Wortman was Mr. Consistency at Bandon Dunes Resort, posting a 1-over 72 in all three rounds, tying for 31st with a 3-over 216.

Freshman Carl Corpus posted a 12-over 225 at the tournament, tying for 64th. He had an amazing recovery in his third round. After carding a nine on the par-4 sixth hole, his first of the round, Corpus battled back for a 1-over 72. After the rough first hole, Corpus had two bogyes, four birdies and an eagle. Senior Nate Jetter carded a 16-over 229, good for 83rd.

The Spartans will be back in action on Mar. 23-24 at the Oregon Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore.
