Stockton, Calif.—San José State left 10 runners on base for the game, including the bases loaded in the second inning, as the Spartans lost a non-conference game at Pacific, 3-1, Tuesday afternoon.
The Spartans left at least one runner on base in every inning but the fourth when they went down in order. In the second inning, Alyssa Graham, Janessa Lozano and Mackenzie Drake each drew walks to load the bases. Leadoff hitter Rayonha Sagapolu came to the plate but struck out looking to end threat and leave the bases loaded.
Makayla Englestad started the third inning with a single to left field and scored on a Cassidy Clark triple down the right field line. Clark was left stranded at third base as the Spartans grounded out two and flied out to centerfield to end the threat.
The Spartans started the fifth, sixth and seventh innings with a double but could not score any of the base runners from third base. Englestad started the fifth inning with a double to center field, but could get no farther than third base as she was left stranded that inning.
Graham started the sixth inning with a double to right center and advanced to third on a Grace Garvey single to right field. Graham was stranded at third base as her teammates struck out and grounded out to end the threat.
Englestad recorded her third hit of the game with a double to left field to start the Spartans in the seventh inning. She advanced to third on a Clark fly out to center but was left stranded on third to end the game.
Spartan starting pitcher Shannon Haddad fell to 11-3 on the season. She pitched six innings and allowed five hits and three runs, two earned, walked two and struck out five.
San José State returns to Spartan Softball Field this weekend to host the Silicon Valley Classic II this Thursday through Sunday, March 4-8. The Spartans play St. Francis on Thursday, Saint Mary's and UC Santa Barbara on Friday and #2 Washington on Saturday.
