Spartans Lose 14-7 to #6 Arizona State in MPSF Match

San Jose, Calif—— #13 San Jose State lost to #6 Arizona State in a 14-7 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) women's water polo match.

    The loss to the Sun Devils was the Spartans' second of the season. Arizona State edged San Jose State (5-12, 0-3 MPSF), 8-6, at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational on February 21.

    Lili Urvari was the top scorer for the Spartans with three goals. She also had three steals. 

    Arizona State (12-4, 1-0 MPSF) scored the first four goals and led the entire match. Clarissa Wandinger put the Spartans on the scoreboard, 4-1, with a power play goal at the 1:21 mark. 

    Three times, San Jose State (5-12, 0-3 MPSF) cut the deficit to two goals in the second quarter and trailed, 7-4 at halftime.

     The Sun Devils opened up an 11-5 lad in the third quarter after Amira Van Buren scored her sixth goal of the match on just seven shot attempts.

    Spartan goalkeeper Hannah Henry was credited with five saves in three quarters. Sophia Reyes played goal in the fourth quarter and was credited with two saves.

    The Spartans will return to action March 20 and 21 for the LMU Invitational where they will play against Princeton, Loyola Marymount, Cal State East Bay, and Azusa Pacific.
