Spartans Hire Clark to Head Development Team

SAN JOSE, Calif. – San José State University has hired Rob Clark as its new deputy director of athletics development, athletics director Marie Tuite announced on Wednesday.

Clark will join the Spartans on May 1 after serving as Long Beach State's executive senior associate athletics director for the last five years.

"We want to welcome Rob and his family to the San José State University Spartans family," Tuite said. "Rob brings an extensive background of philanthropy and revenue generation to our athletics department. He has a history of leading and contributing to successful multi-million dollar projects involving fundraising, capital campaigns, sponsorships and ticket sales. Rob's strengths also include meticulous planning, effective interaction with a variety of athletics stakeholders and building and enhancing existing campus relationships. We look forward to Rob contributing his talents and skills to the Spartans."

"This is an incredible time at San José State" Clark said. "I'm thrilled to work for and with Marie Tuite, as well as our coaches and staff. Together we will actively invite alumni and friends to invest in Spartan student-athletes, taking us to new heights in the Mountain West."

While at Long Beach State, Clark oversaw the external relations team, made up of athletics development, ticket sales and operations, corporate sales, marketing and promotions, media relations, the creative team and was the sport administrator for Dirtbags Baseball. Clark and his team secured naming rights for LBSU's baseball stadium, collected a record fundraising year, several record sponsorships deals, and collected the highest ticket sales revenue in The Beach's history. These fundraising efforts helped LBSU renovate and construct multiple facilities.

"Rob's appointment was made possible by very effective screening and interviewing procedures set forth by senior associate athletics director Blake Sasaki and followed through by our selection committee of department, campus and community leaders," Tuite said.

Prior to Long Beach State, Clark was the senior associate AD for development at Georgia State University, the assistant AD for major gifts at the University of New Mexico, the associate AD of development at Angelo State University, and special assistant to the senior associate AD at Texas A&M. He also worked as a consultant for athletics departments around the nation moving up to the Football Bowl Subdivision level.

Clark played football in college, first at Utah State before finishing his career at Occidental College in Los Angeles, where he was named a team captain. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at Occidental and earned his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University.

Clark and his wife Emily have three children – Annie, Kate and McCoy.
