Prioleau Adds Courtney to 2020 Class

SAN JOSE, Calif. - After adding two players in the fall early signing period, head coach Jean Prioleau has announced a third signee for the 2020 class in forward Chase Courtney

Courtney will join the Spartans for the upcoming 2020-21 season along with two fellow freshmen - guard Sebastian Mendoza and center Hugo Clarkin

CHASE COURTNEY
Courtney is a 6-foot-10 forward who spent the past season at Golden State Prep School after graduating from Pinnacle HS in Scottsdale, Ariz. The athletic big man is the son of Joe Courtney, who played for Phoenix Suns during a 10-year professional career. Courtney averaged 14.1 points and 9.0 rebounds per game as a senior at Pinnacle HS, where he shot 50 percent from the floor and 80 percent at the free throw line.

"We are excited to add Chase to our basketball team," Prioleau said. "We love Chase's size, athleticism and ability to stretch the floor with his perimeter shooting. Most importantly, Chase is a high character young man who comes from a great family."

SEBASTIAN MENDOZA
Mendoza, a 6-foot-4 guard from Riverside, Calif., was named to the Southern Section all-3AA team as a junior after averaging 29.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Mendoza was a MaxPreps Div. 3 all-state selection last season as well.

"Sebastian is an all-around guard," Prioleau said. "He's very athletic and can shoot the three both off the dribble and off the catch. He will be ready to make an immediate impact for our program."

HUGO CLARKIN
Clarkin is a 7-foot center from Las Flores, Calif. Clarkin helped JSerra Catholic HS to a playoff appearance last season. As a senior in 2019-20, he was named second-team all-Trinity League.

"Hugo is a rapidly developing big man that is capable of shooting the three," Prioleau said. "He plays for a powerhouse program in Southern California and has really grown his game. His best days are ahead of him."
