Yu Named to PING All-Region Team

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose State golfer Sean Yu has been named a PING All-Region selection, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced.

Yu posted some impressive numbers in a shortened senior season. The Taipei, Taiwan, native set a school record (1993+) with a 70.43 scoring average over 21 rounds played. Over seven straight tournament rounds in October, he averaged a 66. Yu's -1.14 versus par is the first in program history better than one.

"This is a tremendous honor for Sean," said head coach John Kennaday. "It's well earned and well deserved. He was really heating up when the season was cut short, it's a shame we didn't get to see him play down the home stretch of our schedule."

The 2019-20 season was cut short by four regular season tournaments, plus the NCAA postseason, due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Yu started his senior season strong in the fall. He tallied a program-low round of 61 at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational and followed that up with a 64, tied for the third-best in program history, at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational. Yu, at 11-under, took first in Stockton, as did the Spartans as a team.

In the spring, Yu won the Genesis Collegiate Showcase, besting a field of top collegiate golfers, to earn an invitation to the PGA TOUR Genesis Invitational. At the Genesis, Yu played alongside the likes of Tiger Woods, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Adam Scott, Sergio Garcia and others.

Yu tallied three top-10 finishes in seven tournaments in 2019-20, with a seventh place showing at the season-ending Bandon Dunes Championship.

Yu's par-3 (3.09, 2nd), par-4 (3.97, 1st) and par-5 (4.64, 5th) scoring this season all ranked in the top-5 in SJSU history.
