Indianapolis, Ind.----- San Jose State University Senior Associate Athletics Director for Academics and Student Services Eileen Daley recently accepted a four-year appointment to serve as the Mountain West representative on the NCAA Division I Committee on Academics.
Her appointment to the 20-person national committee consisting of university presidents, a provost, faculty athletics representatives, directors of athletics, a senior woman administrator, and student-athletes begins September 1, 2020.
The committee's supports the NCAA's academic mission "…through the management of Division I academic matters, including policy, eligibility standards, and the NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program."
"It is a privilege and I am looking forward to serving on the NCAA Division I Committee on Academics. This committee has done outstanding work on behalf of NCAA Division I student-athletes. I want to be an advocate for student-athletes as they pursue and complete their undergraduate degrees; their academic advisors, tutors and coaches who monitor academic progress and success; and the Division I institutions they represent during my appointment," said Daley, whose professional career in intercollegiate athletics is focused on academic achievement and success.
She first joined San Jose State University in 2005 as a lead academic advisor and was promoted to an assistant athletics director for academic services in 2007. She was a central figure in the department's major improvement in the NCAA's measurement of Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores over an eight-year period.
Between 2011 and 2016, Daley served San Jose State University as the associate director for undergraduate admissions and outreach. Her primary charge was to recruit under-represented demographic groups to the university.
Daley returned to Spartan Athletics in June 2016 in her present capacity and added the responsibilities of senior woman administrator a year later.
A track and field student-athlete at Sonoma State University, she majored in psychology and later earned a master's degree in sports psychology from John F. Kennedy University.
Daley also has committee-compatible work experiences at Sonoma State University in student-athlete support services; the California Interscholastic Federation as an assistant director focusing on educational programs; and as the academic coordinator for San Francisco State University Athletics.
"Eileen's experiences serving, encouraging, tutoring, and advising student-athletes qualifies her as an ideal candidate to serve on this important NCAA committee. Under her leadership, SJSU has seen unprecedented improvement in the academic achievements of our student-athletes. She manages and leads with empathy, accountability and a keen understanding of the day-to-day academic challenges a student-athlete endures. Student-athletes love her, and they listen to her. She will bring another meaningful voice to the Committee on Academics and we're very proud she will represent the Mountain West," said San Jose State University Athletics Director Marie Tuite.
Daley's NCAA Division I Committee on Academics service in the 2020-21 academic year will coincide with her Mountain West appointment on the conference's Recognition Committee.
