Clark, Brookshire, Haddad Named All-MW

Colorado Springs, Colo.—Despite the shortened season, three San José State softball players have earned All-Mountain West Conference honors for 2020. Cassidy Clark, Suzy Brookshire and Shannon Haddad were among the 27 players honored by the conference coaches.

Clark, a senior infielder, started all 26 games at second base and hit .369 in the third spot of the batting lineup. She recorded a team-best 31 hits, 25 runs scored and nine doubles. She had a 10-game hitting streak during the season and ended the year with a four-game streak. Clark was named a Top-30 Senior CLASS honoree, an award that honors players for excellence in community, classroom, character and competition.

Brookshire, a senior utility player, hit .356 in 26 games played. Batting fourth, she recorded 26 hits, scored 23 runs and drove in a team-high 22 runs. Brookshire led the team with eight home runs and added five doubles and two triples. She led the Spartans with a .808 slugging percentage and drew 11 walks.

Haddad, a freshman pitcher, made an immediate impact in the circle for the Spartans as she led the pitching staff with a 1.00 ERA and 11-3 record and two saves in 18 appearances. She struck out 79 batters in 69.2 innings. Haddad finished sixth nationally in wins, 12th in shutouts, 23rd in saves and 58th in strikeouts. She had two games with double-digit strikeouts – 11 versus California Baptist and 10 against Canisius.

San José State finished the season with a 21-5 record. The team set a new school record with a 17-game winning streak in February.
