SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose State athletics department saw each of its teams post 3.0-or-better GPAs for the Spring 2020 semester.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic causing the cancellation of spring sports and a move to remote learning for many classes at San Jose State, the Spartans were able to focus and excel in the classroom.
"To accomplish this goal during a time when all classes were conducted online, is just incredible," said athletics director Marie Tuite. "It takes a certain discipline to be able to stay on task with online teaching and I'm incredibly proud of the accomplishments of our teams. Also, a special thank you to our academic staff for their vigilant assistance to our student-athletes. A job well-done."
"I'd also like to commend our student-athlete success services staff for the incredible support they provided our Spartans during uncertain times and remote learning," said Eileen Daley, deputy director of internal operations and senior woman administrator.
Women's tennis led the way with a 3.810 team GPA while six others teams posted a 3.5-or-better. Men's golf's 3.61 GPA was tops among men's sports. The average for the department was a 3.40 GPA.
A total of 49 individual Spartans posted a perfect 4.0 GPA in the spring.
