San Jose State's Tre Walker Named To Maxwell Award Watch List

Southampton, Pa.----- San Jose State University wide receiver Tre Walker caps off a week of preseason accolades as one of 98 NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision players on the 2020 Maxwell Award Watch List.

The Maxwell Award honors college football's most outstanding player. The award, first presented in 1937 by the Maxwell Football Club, is named after Swarthmore College football star Robert "Tiny" Maxwell, who went on to a sports writing career and found time to be a football game official.

A senior from Los Angeles, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound Walker was one of the top wide receivers in the game a year ago. Nationally, he ranked third in receiving yards per game (116.1), and fourth in receptions per game (7.9) and was the only player last season to rank in the top-five in those two categories.

He joins the late Guy Liggins as the two San Jose State football players to rank in the top-five nationally in receptions per game and receiving yards per game in the same season.

Earning 2019 first-team All-Mountain West honors, Walker became the sixth Spartan with a 1,000-yard pass-receiving season and his 79 receptions matched the fifth most in a year at San Jose State.

Previously this month, Walker was voted to the Mountain West preseason all-conference football team by a media panel and named to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List honoring the nation's top pass receiver regardless of playing position.

The 84th Maxwell Award winner will be announced on December 10 during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show. The Maxwell Award winner will receive the award March 12, 2021 in Atlantic City, N.J.
