Freshman Q&A: Jaiden McClellan

Spartan fans, it's time to get to know another freshman! This week we are speaking with midfielder Jaiden McClellan! 

McClellan joined the Spartans from Portland Jesuit High School in Portland, Oregon, where she was among the top players in the country. As a two-time team captain, McClellan helped lead Jesuit High, the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, to three state championship titles. In 2019, she was named a Top Drawer Soccer All-American and played in the Girls High School All-American Game in Orlando, Florida. McClellan was also two-time all-state and all-metro selection, and earned an invitation to the U14 United States National Team. She played club ball for Crossfire United, coached by her father Eric McClellan, and helped the team win the 2016 ECNL Showcase Championship and advance to the ECNL Champions League Playoff in 2017.

Q: Why did you choose San Jose State?
JAIDEN: I really love the team and coaching staff, and think that they are all great people. I feel like it's a great, competitive environment that I can grow in.

Q: What is your favorite movie?
JAIDEN: "Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse"

Q: Do you have any hidden talents?
JAIDEN: I am a decent ballerina. 

Q: What is the best part about playing your position?
JAIDEN: I am a midfielder, and it's the best because I get to go everywhere on the field and can be involved in every play. 

Q:What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
JAIDEN: "Hard work ALWAYS pays off." 

Q: Do you have a pregame hype song?
JAIDEN: My current hype song is "Power" by Kanye West

Q: What are you looking forward to the most when restrictions from COVID-19 are lifted?
JAIDEN: I most look forward to playing games and competing.

Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of soccer?
JAIDEN: I love to read and hike.

Q: If you were stuck on a desert island, what three things would your bring with you?
JAIDEN: My phone for my music. "Circe" by Madeline Miller, my favorite book. My favorite blanket to keep me warm.

Q: If you could have dinner with any person, past or present, real or fictional, who would it be?
JAIDEN: Angela Davis
