The Spartans' last win in the series was a 38-34 victory at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.
Aiming for a 3-0 start to the season: The last time a San José State team began a season with a 3-0 record was in 1982 when the Spartans won at Oregon, 18-13; outlasted Stanford and John Elway, 35-31; and topped Oregon State on the road, 17-13.
A 3-0 conference start is possible: The 2020 San Jose State football team can become the university's first to post a 2-0 record in conference play since joining the Mountain West.
The last time the Spartans had a 3-0 conference record was in 2008 as a Western Athletic Conference member after wins at Hawai'i, over Utah State at home, and on the road at New Mexico State.

This year's game is the second time San Jose State is facing San Diego State with an undefeated record. When the 1939 Spartans finished with a perfect 13-0 win-loss mark, San Jose State topped San Diego State, 42-0, to improve its record to 6-0. The Aztecs had a 2-1 record entering the 1939 game between these teams.
Third down thunder: Five of San Jose State's seven touchdowns this season have been third down pass plays. A sixth TD came on a fourth-down pass play.
