Women’s Soccer Adds Eastern Kentucky Transfer Zoe Aguirre

SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose State women's soccer has picked up yet another big addition for their 2021 roster, this time in the form of junior goalkeeper Zoe Aguirre. Aguirre joins the Spartans from Eastern Kentucky where she was a two-year starter and all-conference honoree. Spartan head coach Lauren Hanson made the announcement on Wednesday.

"Zoe is an incoming goalkeeper that has competed and played at the DI level for two seasons.  In addition, she brings a wealth of invaluable international experience representing the youth Mexican National Team," Hanson said. "We are thrilled to have her talent join our program and believe she will add an exciting dimension to our strong defensive tradition."

Aguirre, originally from Corona, Calif., returns to her home state after making 28 career starts in the goal for the Colonels. She posted nine career shutouts, including six as a freshman in 2018, which tied for second in the Ohio Valley Conference.

In 2018, Aguirre was selected to the OVC All-Newcomer Team and was also named to the OVC All-Tournament Team. She finished the season with a conference-best 92 saves and four of her six clean sheets came in conference play. In the OVC Tournament, she recorded a shutout against SIUE in the quarterfinal and then tallied a season-best 13 saves against No. 1 seed UT Martin in the semifinal. Aguirre was twice named the OVC Goalkeeper of the Week and made six saves in a 1-0 shutout win over the Kentucky Wildcats in what was the program's first-ever win against the SEC program.

Aguirre saw continued success as a sophomore in 2019, finishing the season with three shutouts and a 1.49 goals against average. She tallied 88 saves on the year with a single-game high of eight in the season-opener vs. Ohio.

In addition to starting experience at the NCAA Division I level, Aguirre also has invaluable national team experience with the Mexican U-20 National Team, playing with the team at the U20 Women's Cup in France. She was also a member of the first-ever Mexican Beach Soccer National Team.

Aguirre played four years of varsity soccer at Centennial High School in Corona. As a senior, she helped her team win their league title and advance to the CIF Division II semifinals.
