Nick Starkel Named To Davey O'Brien Award QB Class Of 2020

Fort Worth, Texas----- San José State University quarterback Nick Starkel is one of 35 players named to the Davey O'Brien Class of 2020 and is considered an official candidate to win the 2020 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award.
 
            The first-year Spartan and graduate transfer from the University of Arkansas is enjoying his best season as a college quarterback for the undefeated and Mountain West co-leading San José State team (4-0, 4-0 Mountain West)
 
            In the national rankings, Starkel ranks 13th in passing efficiency with a 171.0 rating and 12th in completion percentage with a career-best 70.1 percent figure. He has completed 75-of-107 passes with two interceptions for 980 yards and nine touchdowns.
 
            Starkel passed for a season-high 467 yards and a career-best five touchdowns in the Spartans' 38-21 win over New Mexico and earned Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week and was named to Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award Great 8 list.
 
            The 35 quarterbacks named to the Class of 2020 will be trimmed to 16 semifinalists on December 7. Fans nationwide can vote for Starkel on the Davey O'Brien Award Facebook, @DaveyOBrien on Twitter, and Instagram accounts. On December 22, three finalists will be announced. The winner will be named January 7, 2021, on the 30th annual Home Depot College Football Awards Show televised by ESPN.
 
            The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is named after the TCU quarterback who, in 1938, became the first college football player to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell and Walter Camp Awards in the same year.
