Brent Brennan & SJSU Agree To Contract Extension

San Jose, Calif.----- Based on an unprecedented season of accomplishments, accolades and success, San Jose State University and its football head coach Brent Brennan are finalizing an agreement in principle to an extension of his current university contract. Marie Tuite, San Jose State's director of athletics, made the announcement.

His current contract runs through the 2023 season.

"Everyone connected with the 'Spartan Nation' is thrilled Coach Brennan accepted the university's offer to remain our head coach. Today's announcement is one more touchpoint on one of the best football seasons in San Jose State's history. We have one more game to go and that's with Ball State in the Arizona Bowl. It's one more opportunity for the 'Spartan Nation' to watch the performance of this incredible team," said Tuite.

"This extension means everything. It's another indication of Athletics Director Marie Tuite and our President Dr. Papazian's commitment to building a successful and sustainable football program here at San Jose State. It's a validation that we've done the right things with our players on and off the field," said Brennan, the 2020 Mountain West Football Coach of the Year and a finalist for multiple national Coach of the Year honors.

"I feel great about where we are at. I'm really excited about this bowl game. It gives us a chance to focus on this bowl game and put everything we can into playing well there against a very good Ball State team.

"And, it gives me a chance to keep our staff together. I think a big part of our journey is the quality of our assistant coaches and our staff that surrounds the team. For us, to continue moving this program forward with a contract extension and the belief and support of our administration is absolutely critical," concluded Brennan, who is finishing his fourth season as head coach and tenth at San Jose State where he was an assistant coach from 2005 through 2010.

The 2020 season is one of the best in school history with a 7-0 win-loss record and a Mountain West football championship after defeating Boise State, 34-20, on December 19, in Las Vegas, one of the Spartans' three "home fields" for the year. San Jose State is listed 19th in the Associated Press and 20th in the Amway Coaches polls and ranked 22nd in the College Football Playoff rankings.

San Jose State concludes the season December 31 facing Ball State in the Arizona Bowl in Tucson, Ariz. Game time is 12:00 p.m. (MT)/11:00 a.m. (PT) with live over-the-air coverage on CBS with Brad Nessler and Gary Danielson calling the play-by-play and providing commentary.
