College football head coaches Brent Brennan of San José State University, Stanford University's David Shaw and University of California's Justin Wilcox teamed up over the weekend in a public service announcement (PSA) encouraging people to wash their hands frequently and practice effective and appropriate social distancing in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a normal year, the three universities collaborate on a summer Bay Area College Football Preview held at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara and the scheduling of each team's spring Pro Day for seniors pursuing a professional football career.
Nearing the end of the first quarter of the calendar year, 2020 ceased being "normal" since the beginning of March for Bay Area residents.
Proposed by Courtney Brennan, wife of the Spartans head coach, each coach contributed to the PSA (Twitter - @CoachBrennan) edited by Cam Radford, San Jose State University's Director of Football Digital Communications.
"The idea was to put out a message to address what is going on and that we care. It was a great idea for the three us to do it together," said Brent Brennan.
Teamwork, essential in winning football, was a theme in each coach's message.
"…This is something we've got to do right. If we do it right, you can get back to what you love, so we can get back to what we love which is college football," Brennan said.
"Until we have a vaccine, we need to work together to stop the spread of this dangerous virus," said Shaw, who emphasized anyone is susceptible to catching the Coronavirus and passing it others.
"…Cause we're all in this together. It will take all of us to get through it," said Wilcox.
"Let's do this together," was the final message from Coach Brennan.
