San José State Updates Participation & Competition Plans for 2021 Spring Semester

With the state of California recently returning to the Blueprint for a Safer Economy and Santa Clara County updating its Mandatory Directive for Collegiate and Professional Sports, San José State University can resume on-campus athletically-related activities and host intercollegiate contests.

All of the Spartans' 22 NCAA intercollegiate athletics teams can plan for on-campus indoor and outdoor activities involving equipment-sharing, close proximity, and contact based on county COVID-19 health and safety protocols and directives. These protocols include and are not limited to safe physical distancing and mask wearing, PCR testing three times a week to identify any positive COVID-19 cases, forming teammate-only student-athlete households, and opposing teams' travel guidelines into Santa Clara County.

"We want to thank our state and county officials for their continued vigilance and leadership relating to the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping the public as safe and healthy as possible," said San José State University Director of Athletics Marie Tuite. "For many months, we have missed many of our student-athletes, coaches and staff interacting with each other in campus  academic and athletics activities. As we repopulate the campus, we will continue incorporating the Santa Clara County guidelines to fight the pandemic, keep people safe and healthy, and give our student-athletes, coaches and staff the best possible college experience."

The Santa Clara County directives continue to restrict spectators from attending a team practice, contest, game or athletics event during the 2021 spring semester. For selected San José State sports, fans can have a presence at home contests this spring by registering for the Spartan Athletics Fund Fan Cutouts program.

The first on-campus athletics contest this semester will be the men's basketball team hosting Nevada at the Provident Credit Union Event Center, Friday, February 13. Game time will be announced in the near future.
