Bridgeport, Pa.-----With a pair of returning All-Americans, capable goal scorers and experienced goalkeeping, the San Jose State University women's water polo team is ranked 14th nationally in the February 10 Collegiate Water Polo Association weekly poll.
Second-year head coach Beth Harberts has nearly all the players returning from last year's squad that finished ranked 14th nationally in the final Collegiate Water Polo Association poll, the Spartans highest final ranking since finishing 11th in 2016.
Lili Urvari and Olga Descalzi Portell, a 2020 and 2019 honorable mention All-Americans, respectively, are the Spartans' top two scoring threats. Urvari was the team's top scorer a year ago with 33 goals. Descalzi Portell was next with 32 in 17 matches after pouting in 57 as a freshman.
Tyanna Supreme, Sierra Painter, and Riley Agerbeek are three more proven scoring threats. Supreme has scored 62 times in the last 42 matches. Painter scored 27 goals in 2019 and Agerbeek had her best season a year ago with 18 tallies in 12 matches.
Hannah Henry has been San José State's starting goalkeeper the last two seasons and ranked among the conference leaders in saves per match.
Presently, the Spartans are scheduled to play their first match of the season on March 5 at UC Davis in a non-conference contest. San José State is scheduled to open Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) action on March 20 at Arizona State.
