Sacramento, Calif.—Two road matches to start 2021, two road wins for the San José State women's tennis team as the Spartans won 4-0 Monday afternoon at Sacramento State.
The match, rescheduled from Friday because of rain, started with San José State winning the doubles points. Tamara Culibrk and Irena Muradyan won 6-2, followed by Alba Pedrero Galindo and Lara Marco Mas winning 6-2 for the point. Savannah Sendar and Rozalina Youseva paired together for the first time this season but did not need to finish their match.
San Jose State then needed three singles victories for the match. Jovana Babic started the winning with a straight-set 6-1, 6-0 win in the sixth position. Muradyan won 6-1, 6-2 for the second Spartan singles point. Pedrero Galindo then sealed the victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win.
"We got off to a great start today with our doubles teams winning the point. Both pairs were strong in winning for us. In singles, all three players stepped when they needed to for us to win. We are looking forward to good practices the next three days and hosting USF Friday afternoon at our courts," said Spartan head coach Chad Skorupka.
The Spartans play their first home match in almost a year this Friday, February 26, as the team hosts USF for a noon match. Due to Santa Clara County health regulations, spectators are not allowed at San José State Athletics events.
