Volleyball Swept By Colorado State

San Jose, Calif.—Haylee Nelson and Latahevai Lousi each recorded a double-double for the San José State volleyball team Friday afternoon as the Spartans faced off with Colorado State inside Spartan Gym. The two teams battled in three sets, but the Rams prevailed 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-22).
 
Nelson led all hits with 18 kills and 15 digs. She hit .353 for the match and added three service aces. Lousi recorded 13 kills and 11 digs and had two service aces.
 
The Spartans had another strong serving match, recording nine aces in the three sets. Nelson and Sarah Smevog each recorded three aces, followed by Lousi with two and Makayla Lewis with one. Smevog added 15 digs to lead the Spartans.


 
Set 1 – The Spartans and Rams battled early on, with neither team taking more than a two-point lead. Colorado State led 19-13, but the Spartans did not give up, scoring 10 of the next 15 points and get within one at 23-22 and 24-23 before Rams got the final kill to win 25-23.
 
Set 2 – Colorado State jumped out to a 7-6 lead and extended it to 13-9, before the Spartans started a run of their own. Scoring four straight points, SJSU took the lead on a Smevog service ace at 14-13. The team then scored seven of the next nine points to lead 21-15 on a Lousi kill. The Spartans had set point at 24-22, but a service error and three consecutive Ram kills gave CSU the 26-24 win.
 
Set 3 – Again, the teams battled during the set with eight tied scores and seven lead changes. The Spartans again had a lead mid-set at 16-13 but CSU took the lead for good at 18-17. The Spartans got close at 24-22 on Nelson's last kills of the night, but the Rams put the match away at 25-22.
