Colorado Springs, Colo.—San José State junior outside hitter Haylee Nelson has been named the Mountain West Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for her performances on March 12-13.
Nelson led the Spartans to a 1-1 record over defending MW champions Colorado State at home. For the week, she hit .302 and averaged 5.00 kills, 3.13 digs, 5.81 points and 0.63 service aces per set. She recorded double-doubles in each match.
In the 3-2 win over the Rams this past Saturday, Nelson posted a season-best 22 kills and added 12 digs along with two blocks, two aces and two assists. In Friday's match, she added 18 kills and 13 digs and tied her career best with three service aces.
This is the second consecutive week a Spartan volleyball player has been honored by the MW. Last week, senior Ryann Thominson was the MW Defensive Player of the Week after the team went 2-0 against Nevada.
San José State is now 4-6 on the season and plays at UNLV this Friday and Saturday.
